Re: Today
The simple answer is: they are both correct.
The difference is just that in a. "today" is the subject, but in b. "today" is a sentence adverb. If you transform them into questions, you can see that they're constructed differently:
a. Is today Monday?
b. Is it Monday today?
But they still mean exactly the same, and they are both correct. Two different ways of saying the same thing.
