    Can you help me with the meaning of this sentence:

    I didn't know squat about writing plays.

    does it mean, i know nothing about ...

    Yes. The usual term is 'diddly squat' as in
    I know diddly squat about writing plays.

    Don't ask me what diddly squat means!!!

    "squat", meaning to crouch, is a euphemism for excrement; i.e., They don't know crap about . . .
