Default My advice to you, Eric2004

Don’t blame anybody! From I experience, I learned English in schools through the local Hong Kong Chinese teachers, therefore I have no problem to understand those with Hong Kong accents. But after I listened to VOA (voice of America) for two or three years, I found that American accents were wonderful – slow and using simple words. And I have been listening to BBC programmes since six years ago, and now almost every day in order to know what is happening around the world, I find that the RP (received pronunciation) by the presenters or reporters sound melody to my ears. And when I listen to the local news, in which governmental officials are trying to explain some governmental policies. Sometimes I can’t catch their meanings.

I think Eric was mostly frustrated because he didn't do better on his oral exam. I hope he doesn't let himself get too discouraged.

It is interesting to learn that VOA is available in Hong Kong. It's good to know that it is useful to ESL learners. I wonder if it is available in mainland China.

Thanks for your post. I appreciate any help you can give my student. :D

Default Reception of Voa programmes

Voa programmes can heard by shortwave. Link:
http://www.voa.gov/index.cfm?section...0Frequencies#E

I live in a villa in suburban, and therefore I have no problem receiving the shortwave signals, but I need to use a long copper wire installed horizontally about 4 feet from the ground as an antenna. The length of the wire is that the longer the better, I think, at least 6 metres long.

It’s better to listen to BBC programmes because they are relayed through AM (amplitude modulation) by the RTHK (a Hong Kong government radio station).

Hmm, sorry everyone, I just took a rest. Sigh,
i've been fed up recently.
Thank you, all teachers.
I'm gonna begin to learn English again.

BTW, Hong Kong is not equal to Mainland, mate.
In mainland, logging on to VOA is very troublesome, you know, news blockade.
Nice to meet you, Chinese friend.

I sympathize with you. The truth is though that I cannot know what it is like to be denied access to what I want to see.

Talk to you later. (I must go now. Somebody is "yelling" at me. )

Taliban?
Faint, why you wanna see that? They're just some terrible terrorists. And I think they just say the US is nosy country. xixi.

This daytime i will get my final report card to Harbin. God bless me. Even if I'm really not sure about what result that examiner gave me, I hope your western God can make me lucky this time.

If i can get a good result, I will be right back here.
See you later.
