present perfect

Hi,

as in my previous thread I would like to ask about the "present perfect" in the following sentence:

1) The company is a long-term member of the association.
2) The company has been a long-term member of the association.

My google search suggests that the first one should be correct or more frequently used. But why?

'Long-term' acts as an adjective rather than a time phrase like 'for ten years', so the present works beter. If you say 'has been a long-term member', it suggests that they might be leaving or have left.
