I hope I'm not being redundant in asking this question (I did a search but couldn't find anyone asking the same question) but here goes:
When writing numbers in a paper what is the current proper format? The last type of formatting I used was the MLA formatting about 10 years ago. I can't remember which numbers get spelled out and which numbers are simply written in numerals.
Also, is there a different format for different genres of writing (ie: scientific, general, college papers, newspaper columns, etc.)?
And finally, is there a standard agreement on formatting issues between the English speaking countries?
Thanks in advance!
Generally speaking, the numbers one through ten are spelled out and the rest are written as numerals.
MLA = Modern Language Association?
Thanks! As for what MLA stands for, I can't remember- it's been too many years!Originally Posted by RonBee
Hm. Dic.com says to make it one thru nine.
- Q. What is the rule for determining whether or not to write out a number as a word?

One thru ten or one thru nine?
I think either way is fine.
:D
I was taught to write 'ten' as a word in letters and then to use numbers.![]()
Yes, but do you have a rhyme for that?Originally Posted by tdol
