Re: Stating weight! Hello Bella
All these are correct and commonly used in British English:
1-'I am 8 stone 5'
2-'I am 8 stone and 5 pounds'
3-'I am 8 stone, 5 pounds'
For 8.5 stone, you'd be more likely to hear:
4. I am 8 and a half stone.
On the whole, British people are wary of impromptu calculations; so you'd be very unlikely to hear e.g.
5. I am 8.7 stone.
The last one (6- 'I am 119 pounds') would only be used by someone who was very conscious of his weight (e.g. someone who regularly used a gym; or perhaps an athlete). In ordinary conversation, it would be quite unusual.
However, it may be more common in American English – maybe one of our US members will confirm that for you.
