Dear teachers,
I posted the question last time but I am afraid I put too many questions at a time so that I haven't received any reply now. Now I choose two from among them and hope you could explain them to me.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

1. The vocabulary and grammatical differences between British and American English are so trivial and few as hardly ________.
a. noticed b. to be noticed c. being noticed d. to notice
The key is 'b'. Could you please analyze the grammar? If the basic structure is too+adj.+to do, then what does this "as hardly" function?
2. In think I was at school, ________ I was staying with a friend during the vacation when I heard the news.
a. or else b. or so c. and then d.even so
The key is "a". "Or else" means "otherwise". So I don't understand the sentence at all. To me there is no key to this sentence.

Just give my two cents words to your first question: It should be the usage of the phrase " so as to", that means " so + trivial and few + as hardly to be noticed". Do you think so?

Thank you for your help. I have no idea.
