Default ‘closed in places’

I found the following English sentence.
‘I hate it when people smoke in elevators and closed in places.’

I was wondering if ‘closed in places’ is mistyped instead of ‘in closed places’.
I found out that ‘closed-in’ can be used like ‘closed-in parking lot’, but it seems to need a hypen.
Could anybody help me understand this?

It should have a hyphen or be 'enclosed' IMO.
