the sky is more blue.

is that sentence correct? or should i say "the sky is bluer"?

my friend told me that "more blue" was more common, but i cannot find it in my dictionary.

can someone please help me?

It sounds odd to me- I'd use 'bluer'. However, there are plenty of examples of 'more blue than' being used.
