Default give and send

i am confused about two verbs, to give and to send.

it's due to my mother tongue, and i don't know how to explain it.

is the sentence "he gave me a watch as a gift." the same as the sentence "he sent me a watch as a gift."?

Default Re: give and send

No:
He gave- the act of passing the present to you
He sent- he posted it or had it delivered to you, and didn't pass it to you in person
