Unhappy Replacing past perfect and present perfect by past simple tense.

In what case can we replace past perfect and present perfect with past simple tense?
I'd like to know cases in detail, please.

Actually I don't see it as a matter of replacing past perfect and present perfect with simple past but rather a case of when to use one tense and not the other.
