| . This is an unfamiliar phrase to me, Matilda. Could you supply some context? Could it be rather 'being to blame for sth'?-- this means 'being responsible/being the cause of sth (usually unfortunate)'. . |

| yes, you're right. i made a mistake in sending the question. the sentence i had problem is: much of their conversation concerned what was wrong in their marriage, and WHO WAS TO BLAME. i made a mistake because of the verb (was) in the sentence |
