I run a cricket website and I like to have my reports done correctly, especially the headlines.

Cricinfo, the biggest cricket website, reports thus: England fight back, Australia ponder changes, Pakistan warn against ... , Sri Lanka crush (whoever) etc.

Seems to me these should be 'fights', 'ponders', 'warns' and 'crushes'. I realise either way may be correct but is either one more correct than the other or is only one of those alternatives correct?

Similarly, which is correct or more correct? England has/ have a big win, Australia selects its'/their team, Pakistan is/are batting etc.

These are teams:

(Team) England has a big win.
(Team) Australia selects its team,
(Team) Pakistan is batting

'England fight back' had no ! after it. Neither did the other three examples I provided. What was your reason for adding the exclamation marks?

How is 'England fight back' a command? It was a headline for a report where the England team had improved its position during a Test match.

They read like commands.

"fight back" lacks a subject-verb agreement marker. It's in the imperative; It expresses a command, and reason it reads like a command.

What you want is the declarative,

England fights back.
