Hi,

Would you tell me the reason why (1) is possible and (2) is not?

(1) I don't think that he is rich.
(2) I don't know that he is rich.

EX: I don't know if he is rich or not. <subordinating clause>
EX: I don't think (that) he is rich. <clause>
