I'm not sure what this means:
'I wonder that it is not more to the point to compare Lewis to nineteenth century writers and not twentieth century writers.'
Does he mean ' I'm surprised that it is not often enough that Lewis is compared to 19th century writers but not 20th century writers'?![]()

I just read another 'I wonder' sentence:
'I've always wondered if the author wasn't in fact subtly trying to tell us something about women and their limited options.'
Here is my question: is it in fact the same as-
'I've always wondered if the author was in fact subtly trying to tell us something about women and their limited options.'
I feel they are actually of the same meaning, although with the difference in 'was' and 'wasn't'.
