    Default backfire

    1) The content is...

It behaves like anything we ever tried to get quick without effort.

Get rich quick. Get high. Get lucky

Some universal vital principle always wants us to see that the effort itself is important...even beautiful. That effort in itself is good fortune. And to chemically try to avoid it will backfire in the grimmest way.

Get high here = be happy?

Chemically in this content is about using drug to create the false happiness. Anyway, I don't understand the last sentence, does it mean "try to use drug to avoid the real happiness will make it worse or dangerously produce the opposit effect"?

    2) The content is...

The journey is from absolute depedence on other people (begun in the womb) to a thrilling independence of others, characterized by a growing union with the spirit inside.

what does the red text really mean? played by a increasing group who has a spirit?

    3) The surge of independence.

In this case, what can we replace the word "surge" with?

    4) We would keep on the journey to independence, reinventing ourselves for the pure evolutionary joy of it all the way

what does the red text really mean?

    Thank you!

By "get high," they mean feeling good by artificial means, such as getting drunk, or smoking marijuana, or taking drugs of some sort.

Some people use drugs or liquor to achieve a feeling of satisfaction instead of actually working for it - instead of, for example, finishing a difficult task at work and then feeling good about it, they don't exert any effort, leave the work unfinished, and go to the pub afterward and have several drinks. They are avoiding the effort (doing their work) using chemicals (drugs or alcohol), which will make them feel good temporarily. But the "high" will wear off, and the work will still be there, waiting to be done. Eventually, too much drugs or drink can be dangerous to ones health, plus they could lose their job (since they're not doing their work). Their temporary solution to feeling good has "backfired", or has ultimately failed them. They've damaged their health, lost their job, and no longer have the money to buy the drugs or liquor that they need/want.

I hope this explanation wasn't too long or rambling, and that it made some sense.
