rent or rental

Which two of the following are correct:

1) You can live in the apartment, but you must pay the rental.
2) You can live in the apartment, but you must pay the rent.

3) You may use my bike, but you must pay the rental.
4) You may use my bike, but you must pay the rent.

I'd use 2. With the second, I'd use 4, bit I wouldn't say 'the' if I owned the bike. If I had rented the bike, then I'd use 'the'. However, with the bike a 'hire charge' might be a better temr. ;-)
