Default listening to CNN Radio Marketplace

Teachers:

I cannot figure out some words while listening to a clip of a CNN Radio Market Place program.
Could someone please be kind enough to tell me which choice should be filled into the blank of the last paragraph which I wrote down after listening to the above-mentioned audio clip, "afford" or "put" or what else?

Thanks in advance.

Below is the URL of the above-mentioned audio clip of about 2 minute, MP3, 1774KB
