Default different word order and different meaning?

hey,
is this senntence o.k.?:
"..the former's fear and the latter's joy are of the same origin."
1) is the phrase 'of the same origin' correct and logical, would a native speaker say like this?
2) is 'former's/latter's fear' correct or should I say 'fear of the former/latter/?
but if the second version is correct how should I interpret it? If 'fear of the dark' means that someone is afraid of darkness so I should understand that 'fear of the former/latter' means that someone is afraid of the former/latter (what/whoever it is)

how about 'rumours of you/your rumours' and 'picture of you/your picture'?

1 It's OK, but you could say other things like 'share the same source'
2 It's OK, but the second version is visually more appealing
