what exactly is the Brown corpus count of words?
is the brown corpus the most used, widely used/or the most consise corpus to date? or just the corpus of choice on this web site?

It was one of the first corpora- it took 500 texts of 2,000 words each as its basis. It's been replaced by bigger ones like the BNC, which is far bigger. It isn't the corpus of choice here, though we do use its lists, among others, in one tool. I generally use the BNC when I want to query something.
