hello there, im confused by is and are to construct questions .

1. what pens ____ your friend using?
A. is
B. are


2. what pen ____ your friends using?
A. is
B. are


3. what pens ____ your friends using?
A. is
B. are



the usage of be verb is to support the +ing, pen(s) or friend(s).? or either?
