major
Dear teachers,
We can say "He is a major in English". Can I say "They are majors in English, Computer Science and Mathematics"?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Re: major
I'd say 'his major is English'. If he has finished, then I'd say 'he majored in English'. It could be different in AE, though- so much is different in the area of education.

Re: major
Dear tdol,
I should have explained this way:
Suppose there is a group of university students. Some major in English. Some major in Computer Science and some major in Mathematics. How should I describe them? Should I introduce them respectively?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Re: major
You said it right. My major is Education.

Re: major
So I can't introduce students of different majors. Now I see.

Re: major
&
I am afraid I didn't make myself understood. I am trying to do it again and see if I can succeed this time:
Suppose there are ten students present. And one of them major in math. Two of them major in Linguistics. Four of them major in Gastronomy. and three of them major in Flamenco. If I need to introduce their major, just to give a rough idea to someone instead of stating precisely who major in what. Then I have to say xxx majors in .....,xxx and xxx major in ....; xxx, xxx and major in..., xxx,xxx and xxx major in ..... I thought this is too complicated. That's why I asked the question "Can I say 'They are majors in English, Computer Science and Mathematics'". In the meanwhile it occurred to me maybe I can say "They major in Englihs, Computer Science and Math". Can I?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.
Jiang

Re: major
You could say that x major(s) in xxxx, then just use the preposition:
x majors in xxx, and y in xxx, and z in xxx.
Your English, Computer Science and Math' is also OK for introducing a group.

Re: major
Oh, this is much less complicated.
Many thanks!
