Hello everybody,
Would you please tell me how to use this term in a sentence?
(At the expense of something)

It means that something will suffer as a result of the action. If you break some bad news to someone, for example, it might be at the expense of your friendship- in other words, you might lose a friend, but think that it is important enough to tell them.

another example sentence - Economic growth must not be pursued at the expense of environmental pollution.
