Teeth literally have to cut their way through the gum to come out. Teeth grow, but we don't grow them because we don't control them and have would be used to refer to the number of teeth you possess, not the action of getting new ones.![]()
I came across an expression in a story book "to cut a wisdom tooth" . Why do you say "to cut a tooth" , instead of saying like "to have a tooth", or "to grow a tooth"?
