how to use lend and borrow?

He borrows me pencil.

He lends me pencil.

If you lend something, that means that you give that thing to somebody for a short time. Borrow is the opposite. So, if you come to school without a pencil, I might lend you a pencil -- and then you would be borrowing it from me.

Occasionally, some native speakers say "lend" when they mean "borrow", but of course you're not allowed to do that. :)
