Default date of commencement

Hello,

could you please help me again. Are there any better expressions for:

date of commencement of the office

I mean if someone is appointed as e.g. an executive of a company from a certain date. I think that "date of appointment" is not the right one, because someone can be appointed today but his office commences e.g. a month later.
This expression is used in an extract from the commercial register.

Thank you very much.

Example: Marin County has appointed Alex McIntyre as its new Chief Assistant County Administrative Officer. His start date is April 3, 2006.
