When should we use "refuse" and "refute"? Kindly explain me in sentence structure.

refute:
prove the falsity or error of s.th.
rebut by argument.
deny or contradict.

A synonym for "refute" is "disprove" {The witness's testimony was disproved/refuted on cross-examination}.

Many dispute dictionary.com's claim that "refute" means "deny."
