| I have always been told to put a comma after both - definitely not a fullstop - however I was also told in business letters, punctuation in addresses and salutations etc, is no longer needed?? |

| If the correspondence is via e-mail, much of that punctuation is eliminated. But on a traditional written business letter, it would still be included. Also, usually a colon ( : ) usually follows Dear Sir, instead of a comma. |
