Doubts: as though / for vs during

Dear cyber-teacher:

In the past few months I have come across one doubt which seems almost childish and embarrasing, buth I cannot find TEFL literature to support my answer.

When I write:
"...as though everything were perfect".

I understand that "were" in this case is correct as it could be considered as a type of conditional, buth when I search in Google "was" seems "more perfect".

Can you help me, please?
I would be very grateful.

"As if" and "as though" were originally always used to introduce
counterfactuals, but are now often used in "looks as if",
"sounds as though", etc., to introduce things that the speaker
actually believes ("It looks as if" = "It appears that"). In
such cases the present indicative is often used.
