Where are you planning on going? Before you go, check on what is or is not accepted in that country. If you're just visiting a place for tourism, this is rarely a problem I have found as most places are geared up for this. Living in a country is very different as you get much closer to the people and need to learn more about the culture. I think that if you are open to differences and prepared to try things, it's not that difficult to fit in- I have lived in four countries and haven't really had many problems, no matter how different, including in two Asian countries which are very different form the UK, where I come from.
