i have a question about "which"

in which cases can we use it after a person or a noun which implies human being? I read in a thread: " I have friends, which i trust." I know that we use "which" to refer to things and animals.

which doesn't refer to the noun 'friends'. It refers back to the omitted noun 'group':

EX: I have (a group of) friends that/which I trust.
