    Default made of/from

When do you use "It's made of" and "made from"?

It is said there is a difference between them... I heard one is used for ingrediences that may change during the production (e.g. milk -> butter) and one is for materials that don't change their consistence... But I don't know... I just heard it. What is the truth?

    That's the truth:
This chair is made of wood- I can recognise the material
Wine is made from grapes- it would be hard to recognise the material used

    How about

The shirt is made of cotton.
It is not possible to recognise the material used!

Most people can tell whether someone is wool, cotton, silk, etc- we think in terms of the material that it is cut from rather than the plant source.
