Default Is this sentence correct?

"Each year, thousands of people get lost in the Arizona desert. Of these, some 200 will die."

Is it correct to begin a sentence with "Of these"? Should I say "Of those" instead?

Thank you.

Your sentences have two contrasting tenses. Put them in the same tense. Try:
  • Each year, thousands of people get lost in the Arizona desert. About 200 of them die.

You could also say:
  • Each year, thousands of people get lost in the Arizona desert. Of that number, about 200 die.

What do you think?
