Exclamation Urgent!

Please help...

Why is this sentence grammatically incorrect.

'He robbed my handbag.'

The correct being 'He stole my handbag'

But how do I explain why 'Robbed' is incorrect.

Urgent help needed!!!

To rob means to take something away forcefully, using threats or violence.
from a person, place or organization.

Correct:
He robbed me of my handbag
The bank has been robbed.(not 'the robbers robbed the money from the bank!)

'He stole my handbag' means something else - taking away something without the person knowing.
