Question 2.
To identify the difference in verb forms and the difference between what each sentence means.
a)
He speaks Chinese.
The verb is a present tense form. This sentence demonstrates the he has the skill and knowledge to speak Chinese.
He is speaking Chinese.
The verb is a present continuous. This sentence conveys he is speaking Chinese in the present context.
The difference between the two sentences is the first example illustrates he can speak a language, whereas the ING Participles added to the base form of speak illustrates he is speaking Chinese in the present time.
b)
She stopped to listen to the music
The verb ‘to listen’ is the base form in this sentence. The verb ‘stopped’ indicates the action is in the past tense due to the ‘ed’. Therefore this sentence is present perfect. The sentence indicates that in the past she stopped whatever she was doing, to listen to the music.
She stopped listening to the music
The verb in this sentence is ‘past continuous’. This sentence uses the stopped to illustrate the action happened in the past, whereas the ING on listening which conveys the action is continuous.
The first example is of an action happening in the present whereas the second sentence is of an action which has happened at a specific moment in time in the past.
c)
Dan’s gone to Germany
This statement is an example of ‘present simple’ tense, it is stating that Dan is in Germany at the present time.
Dan’s been to Germany
This statement is an example of ‘past simple’ tense, as it is stating that Dan went to Germany in the past.
The difference between both is only the time in which Dan went to Germany, either in the past or present.

Re: verb tenses
Hello Dot
All are fine, except:
1, Jamie helped change toms bicycle tyre. ] tense ok, but should be "Tom's"
2. Future Continuous: Next week I have a music exam. ] Not quite. Would you like to try again?
3. She stopped to listen to the music] Not present perfect! Try again?
4. Dan’s been/gone to Germany ] Not past simple; try again!
5. Identify which syllable carries the main stress. ] I can't see the stress marked here.
Otherwise, well done!

<...could you shed some light...>
Hello Dot
1. Jamie helped change toms bicycle tyre.
— in this one, you just needed an apostrophe in "Tom's".
3. She stopped to listen to the music.
— This one is the simple past. For the present perfect, you's say "She has stopped to listen to the music".
4. Dan’s been/gone to Germany.
— And this one is the present perfect, not the simple past!
5. Identify which syllable carries the main stress.
— I think for this question, you're meant to say which syllable is stressed. Did you want to try marking the stress in those words?
Bye for now,
MrP
