Default identified especially in trouble?

"Suku was an abandoned child. 43 years ago, Mother Teresa carried him to her home for children. He was identified as 'Mother's Suku', especially when he was in trouble."

What does it mean by "He was identified as 'Mother's Suku', especially when he was in trouble."?

'Mother's Suku' was an affectionate name given to him because Mother Teresa had taken a personal interest in him. I suspect 'especially when he was in trouble' means that people used the name when he was in trouble to remind him of his debt to her.
