Hello AB

I'm English, for the most part. I speak a southern English dialect of British English. It consists mostly of silence, with occasional noises of polite agreement.

<...Canadians go to the hospital. (Psst. You've confused us with the Brits.)...>

Oddly enough, I would usually say "go into hospital", in the case of a stay, and "go to the hospital" in the case of a visit. (Though once you find yourself in an English hospital, the last thing you worry about is the choice of articles or prepositions.)
