| Thank you for your answer but , I still have a question. In one of the grammar English books I have read lately, it is mentioned that the contrasted forms, mayn`t and mightn`t, are not correct or rather unusual,and we should avoid them. Is this true? Thank you very much. |

| The contracted forms are not used much. To BrE ears, they sound rather dated, especially 'mayn't', but they aren't wrong and they are used in question tags. I wouldn't normally use them in other cases. He mightn't come. He might not come. Here, I would always use the second. |
