    Default thoughts of risk/shelved

I have a problem understanding that sentence.
"All thoughts of risk were shelved as Smith now looked for a safe way home."

The context is a freestyle wakeboarder named Smith who just fell and is trying to finish his run.

Does the sentence mean that Smith is trying to put aside his fear of falling again in order to finish his run safely?
Did the first fall make him toss aside the possibility of falling again?

Thanks in advance for helping me out:)

It means he has put his fear aside.
