Default under the table means what

Could anyone tell me the meaning of the following sentence:"She drew the blind to curtain off this merry sight."?
And there's another sentence I can't understand:"he paid me 20 bucks under the table."Does buck mean a dollar?and what does "under the table"mean?

She closed the drapes or pulled the shade down on the window so that she couldn't see what was happening outside.

Yes, a buck is slang for a dollar. Being paid under the table means receiving money confidentially, so that no one else knows about it. "Being paid under the table" often implies that the money is a bribe.
