I am confused about "hit the wall" in the sentence "the boom however ,would hit the wall years ago if China hadn't given it a second wind." please help me clear it up! I''ll appreciat you very much!

"Hit the wall" means to stop or halt abruptly; it describes a situation that cannot make any further progress.
