I read this from Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maquire:
"At home we sang to ourselves as we spoke, in that tone of Spanish that evokes blood oranges and tenor lutes."
What does it mean by the tone that "evokes blood oranges and tenor lutes?"

It could do or it could me that they spoke in a musical way- maybe a bit exaggerated and stylised.

A lute makes me think of Chinese music instead...

Oranges can be associated with Spain- we have Seville oranges- as we don't grow them. Spanish music uses instruments like guitars, lutes, etc.
