I got a question:When do you use off and of?

Here for example can I use off?
    1) I will go off
    2) Switch off the light

What's the difference between off and of?

Let go my hand- this might be heard in colloquial usage, but would be considered wrong by many. There is a tendency nowadays towards dropping some prepositions, but if you wrote it in a test, it would probably be marked wrong.

Of- often carries no meaning and just connects words (cup of coffee), but can show possession
    Off- opposite of 'on'
