"I like it that way"
In the above sentence, aren't the bold places wrong? If it is true, so what does it mean?![]()
The word "it" functions as an expletive. It doesn't convey any independent meaning at all but it's just there to fill out a sentence or metrical line.
Similar case: "I like it when you whisper sweet words..." ; "I'd appreciate it if you..." :)
So it's the same with "I like that way"???![]()
I'd prefer to use "it" because as an expletive, it makes the sentence grammatically correct and it's more comfortable to listen to. "I like that way" is a bit strange.
