Default Long live sb/sth!

Hi,

Long live sb/sth - we said this to show support for the person or thing mentioned

I'm confused with the word "live". In my opinion, "live" in the idiom should be a verb. Is that correct?

How should I pronounce the "live" - "liv" or "laiv"?

Thanks for the help.

'liv' and you're right that it's a verb- it's a subjunctive form.
