A sentence

"Organization involves (1) how you analyze your topic, the parts into which you divide it, and (2)..."
Although I understand the phrase ", the parts into which you divide it,...," I don't understand the way it is joined with the first part of the sentence - it doesn't fit IMO. Could you help me?

I don't think so. I would put 2 before the division, but the author seems to think that they are one- analyse and then divide = one thing.

Thanks, tdol. I must be narrow-minded, because I still don't follow the sentence: for me it doesn't seen natural. So, as I understand, you would write
"Organization involves (1) how you analyze your topic, (2) the parts into which you divide it, and (3)..." If so, I would probably rearrange the (2) part; for instance, it could then be "(2) division of the topic into parts, ..." As you see, I assumed that "it" refers to the topic, though, as I wrote, I still don't get this sentence. Sorry for that--you don't have easy live with me, do you?!

division of the topic... works fine. I assume 'it' refers to 'topic' too, though I think you could use the pronoun there.

Now it's clear... Don't you think the sentence "(1) how you analyze your topic, the parts into which you divide it,..." lacks conjuction after the comma?

The wording is a bit clumsy; I would be tempted to use gerunds instead of the how structure.
