    Cool nevertheless/nonetheless

    Hello everyone...
I would like to know if there is any difference between 'nevertheless and nonetheless'. If you could give me any examples, I would really appreciate it.
    Ana.

Hi, Ana laura. I think there's no difference between "nevertheless" and "nonetheless". Both of them are concessive linking adjuncts:

    e.g.: I don't like him but I appreciate his qualities nevetheless/nonetheless.
He is a liar. Nevertheless/nonetheless, he told us the truth that day.

I hope this be helpful to you.

    Regards,

    Adrián.

Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary gives that nonetheless is "slightly informal." Nevertheless (), it's the only source showing this slight difference, so I am wondering whether this difference isn't just artificial. What's your opinion, dear Teachers?

    Hello Nyggus

I find the CALD's conclusion slightly surprising. It may be that "nevertheless" is more formal; but that doesn't necessarily make "nonetheless" "slightly informal"!

Maybe other members will have a view.
