which one is more acceptable?

1. I am reading a book which you gave me the other dayor
I am reading a book which you have given me the other day.

Also, which one is right?

2. I hate him because he always talks as if he is my boss or
i hate him because he always talks as if he were my boss.

or he looks as if he were doing something wrong.
he looks as if he is doing somthing wrotong.

For me:
1 I am reading the book which you gave me... (unless you gave me more than one, in which case 'a' is OK)
2 'were'- he isn't
'is' - he probably is
