    Default Re: potential ambiguities?

[1] "Windows 9x does not set the read-only flag on CD-ROM directories like Windows XP."

Meaning 1: Windows 9x does not set the read-only flag on CD-ROM directories.

Meaning 2: Windows 9x does set the read-only flag on CD-ROM directories, but not in the same way as Windows XP.

[2] "Like Windows XP, Windows 9x does not set the read-only flag on CD-ROM directories."

Meaning 1: Both systems do not set it.
Meaning 2: Only Windows XP sets it. <marginal>
Meaning 3: Windows 9x sets it, but in a different way.

Would you like to try the other two?

That's what I thought was most likely the intended meaning!

There were two other examples on your list that I didn't do and thought that you might want to try rewording.

Actually, that meaning is also impossible for me; I thought that way because I thought you were referring to the first example ("[1]").
