What's the difference between "concept" and "conception"?
Please see the following sentence.
"The conception of musical harmony is generally traced to the ninth century because it is first mentioned in treatises of that period. "
If I use "concept" instead of "conception" in that sentence, it sounds
awkward?

Here I believe 'conception' refers to the process of conceiving: harmony was first conceived in the 9th century. 'Concept' is the idea of harmony itself. They would leave somewhat different impressions on the reader.
